Position Summary
UNSW Canberra’s Young Women in Engineering (YoWIE) program is a program designed to encourage high school students to get excited about and involved in engineering. This program, aimed at young women, has been a successful program that has helped normalise engineering as a future career path for young women in Canberra. Super YoWIEs are usually YoWIE alumni who participated in the program the year prior and are returning as paid casual staff to be team leaders and peer support for the participants. Super YoWIEs are usually high school, college or university students who have a passion to mentor and encourage their peers in the field of engineering.

This is a Casual Junior Instructor role to help run the YoWIE activities under full supervision of the program facilitators and academic staff at UNSW Canberra.

Accountabilities
Specific accountabilities for this role include:

• Act as junior teaching aid during activity.
• Help activity lead set up and pack up all activity equipment.
• Register and escort girls to and from activities, with supervision.
• Assisting in activity demonstration.
• Mentoring of YoWIEs in program.
• Attend all three days of YoWIE 2025 (Tuesday 15 to Thursday 17 April 2025).
• Support the YoWIE Academic Team in the running the activity.
• Attend an induction session with your Activity Lead prior to the event to be trained in your activity.
• Attend a staff meeting 1-2 weeks prior to the event where you will meet the YoWIE team and be familiarised with all the program and activities and be inducted in our safety procedures.
• Assist each morning with set up and registration of the YoWIEs.
• Other casual duties as required.
• Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours and the UNSW Code of Conduct.
• Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.
