The UNSW Division of Societal Impact, Equity and Engagement (DSIEE) leads UNSW’s efforts in making positive and lasting impact on society, promoting equity and social justice and driving engagement activities that enhance UNSW’s reputation as a key contributor to society through its research, teaching, and community engagement.
You’ll join the team responsible for connecting the University with its core stakeholders, managing communication both internally to Faculty and Divisional staff, as well as with external players including the media, government, donors, alumni, volunteers and the broader community.
Why your role Matters:
As Internal Communications Manager, you’ll communicate with our diverse staff audience made up of professional and academic stakeholders to provide a centralised and trusted communications service that delivers UNSW’s internal communication activities, ensuring all staffed are informed and engaged across University updates, activities and achievements.
Reporting to the to the Executive Director, Strategic Communications, the position leads a team of up to four direct reports working to promote the activities of the University through internal channels ensuring informative, engaging and cohesive messaging.
Your day-to-day work includes:
- Developing consistent and professional communications that align with UNSW’s strategic objectives.
- Designing and delivering communications plans and briefings regarding issues impacting University staff.
- Writing, pitching and distributing and stories, consulting with relevant teams to identity and promote required messaging including operational updates from Estate Management, IT and professional services.
- Organising events to promote the activities, research and achievements of the University.
(including Heads of School, Leadership Forum and University-wide Town Halls). - Providing expert direction to senior stakeholders on the development and delivery of effective communication strategies, ensuring all published content is of a high quality and aligned to UNSW’s voice: Project Symphony.
- Collaborating with relevant teams across the University to effectively manage key messaging, including but not limited to Security, Estate Management, Risk and the Vice-Chancellor’s Office.
- Enhancing UNSW’s communications through considered analysis and review.
Who you are: We’re looking for a stand-out communicator with a relevant degree and significant experience in internal and corporate communications management with:
- Demonstrated experience in distilling complex information into straight forward messages for communication to a diverse group of stakeholders, in support of strategic goals.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to navigate through competing deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work in demanding and high-profile situations and issues management.
- Proven ability to liaise effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders, and exercise creativity and enthusiasm in the development of new initiatives.
- Proven record of developing successful, creative communications strategies and plans and leading the implementation to deliver enhanced engagement within the Higher Education sector or similar.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the proven ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
- In-depth understanding of the target audience, with a highly effective writing style and expertise in high-impact messaging to various audiences.
- Demonstrated experience in distilling complex information into straight forward messages for communication to a diverse group of stakeholders.
