Job Description:
Patient Care Technician facilitates and assists in meeting the needs of the patient. These tasks are to be within the range of responsibilities that the Registered Nurse (RN) can rightfully delegate to an unlicensed patient care provider. The Patient Care Technician (PCT) follows the direction of the Registered Nurse, the Lead/Charge Nurse, the Nursing Director/ Assistant Nursing Director, as well as the House Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. High School graduate or GED equivalent.
2. Will be required to attend and successfully complete the UTMC Healthcare Tech training course and maintain CPR/BLS certification thereafter.
Candidates with a current CPR/BLS certification AND at least one of the following are not required to attend and complete the UTMC Health Tech training course:
- Has successfully passed a State Approved Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exam or State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) exam and has an active certification on the applicable state registry at the time of application.
- A recent graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Candidates with recent equivalent experience who successfully pass the Skill Assessment will not be required to attend and complete the Healthcare Tech course
3. Ability to write legibly, speak articulately, and follow directions accurately.
4. Ability to plan and organize work and to work under supervision. Willingness to accept responsibility for patients in their care when performing delegated functions of this position and to perform delegated duties in accordance with established methods and procedures.
5. Will be required to work some weekends and holidays.
6. May be required to rotate shifts and units.
7. Physical requirements:
a. visual acuity of 20/20 or corrected to 20/20 including color vision when applicable;
b. ability to hear (with or without aides)
c. ability to orally communicate
d. good manual dexterity
e. ability to push, pull, roll, and transfer/lift 50 pounds occasionally
f. ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, kneel frequently; and
h. ability to perform CPR
