Job Description:

The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate or Professor in Emergency General Surgery, Trauma and Surgical Critical Care. The surgeon reports directly to the Chief of Surgery and the Chairman of the Department of Surgery and represents the College to internal and external constituents to promote, facilitate, and disseminate clinical, education and research activities. The University of Toledo is an ACS-verified Level II Trauma Center.

The Acute Care Surgery Team is composed of 4 intensivists (3 surgical and 1 anesthesiologist), covering a 10 bed SICU; 4 trauma surgeons and 3 general surgeons sharing in the trauma/emergency surgery call, supported by 8 Advanced Practice Providers as well as General Surgery Residents. As part of your duties, you will be expected to teach medical students, PA students, residents, APPs and nurses. You will also be expected to participate in the outreach and prevention efforts of the Department.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Trauma, Surgical Critical Care and Emergency General Surgery
  • Provide direct care for critically ill surgical patients within the SICU
  • Participate in clinical research and teaching of General Surgery Residents, medical students, and APPs.
  • Perform administrative duties to support ongoing trauma verification.
  • Supervise APP in the Trauma/Acute care clinic.
  • Participate in additional opportunities for General Surgery practice.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Medical degree MD or DO from an accredited institution
  • Successful completion of a residency in General Surgery as well as a in Surgical Critical Care.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in both General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care
  • Unrestricted OH Medical license
  • Unrestricted DEA license
  • Must meet all the institutional requirements for appointment to Assistant/Associate or Professor.
  • Strong leadership skills, an interest in teaching and clinical research, with exceptional clinical ability.
