Job Description:
The University of Toledo is seeking a strategic communications professional to serve as the institution's Director of University Communications. The director is responsible for internal and external communications strategy and execution, including crisis communications, executive messaging, media relations and campus news sharing. This position is a member of the leadership team for the Office of University Marketing and Communications and leads the communications team with several direct reports responsible for messaging.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field (communications, journalism, marketing or related) required. Master’s degree preferred.
• A minimum of eight (8) years of demonstrated experience in communications or public relations leadership in a large, complex organization with increasing levels of responsibility. Higher education experience preferred.
• A minimum of four (4) years of management experience with direct reports.
Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills, including knowledge of Associated Press and University style guidelines, required.
• Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to speak on behalf of the institution are required.
• Strong work ethic and ability to handle confidential and sensitive materials are required.
• Effective decision-making and problem-solving skills are required. Able to effectively communicate in fluid situations. Enforce deadlines and processes.
• Ability to work under minimal supervision, tight time constraints and periodic high-volume circumstances.
• Available to work outside normal business hours to meet immediate deadlines and during emergencies.
