Job Summary: | This is work ensuring the security of the law enforcement officers and facilities through the use of a communication-situation center. Work includes providing non-sworn law enforcement support services and university main switchboard operation. Responsibilities focus on the successful operation of the bank of equipment necessary for an effective agency, including a police radio based station, campus-wide radio based station, Florida Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center teletype terminal, Criminal Justice Network (internet based), telephone and radio recorder, system; fire, intrusion, hold-up security and blue-light alarm system, facsimile machine, PBX consoled, and operation of all types of computer systems in a police department communications center. |

Minimum Qualifications: | A high school diploma and one year of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Proficiency in typing ability to obtain certification within six months on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Florida Crime Information Center (FCIC) computer system are required. Must have 232 hours of 911 dispatcher training and pass state issued certification exam within one year of employment or have previous dispatcher experience prior to April 2012 to substitute experience for training hours and pass state issued certification exam within one year of employment. |
Position Qualifications: | Knowledge of correct spelling, punctuation and grammar usage. Must possess ability to relate to the public, alphabetize, file and communicate verbally and in writing. Must possess ability to work in a confidential environment due to the sensitivity of information within the department. Must possess ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to speak clearly and interpret questions and answer those questions properly. Must possess the skills to use a computer. |
Preferred Qualifications | Experience operating and utilizing the following equipment in order to provide critical information to law enforcement officers, emergency personnel or similar: police radios or similar equipment; pager systems; telephone/radio base stations; telephone/radio recording systems; alarm boards and/or computerized systems. Experience coordinating information with surrounding law enforcement agencies and/or various other state and federal agencies. Professional experience working with emergency situations. Experience monitoring alarm systems and notifying personnel upon activation. Experience with the Florida Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center teletype terminal. Completed FCIC Full Access Basic Certification. Evidence of strong written and oral communication skills. Experience working in a confidential environment. Experience working with and assisting the public. |
