Job Summary: | The Department of Biology at the University of West Florida (UWF) in Pensacola, Florida, invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position (Position # 118930) at the Assistant Professor level, beginning in August 2025. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or a closely related field from an accredited institution by the start date of the appointment and a strong commitment to teaching, academic research, and service. Our faculty are active teacher-scholars who value collaboration within and across disciplines. The department seeks applicants who will engage in student mentorship and innovative course design, and incorporating research-based curricula. We are particularly interested in candidates with a background in immunology, especially with research programs addressing fundamental immunological questions or biomedical applications. The successful candidate is expected to teach a wide range of both undergraduate and graduate courses for the programs in the Department in the areas of biological sciences and the candidate’s discipline, establish an active research program that involves undergraduate and graduate students, mentor students and perform service activities that contribute to the success of Department and the mission of the University. The Department of Biology at UWF also offers a dynamic academic environment with a focus on high-impact teaching and research practices. The department is dedicated to providing students with hands-on learning experiences and preparing them for careers in biomedical sciences, environmental science, and beyond. Faculty members are engaged in a wide range of research areas, from molecular and cellular biology to ecology and environmental science, and are committed to mentoring the next generation of scientists. The Department of Biology at UWF provides access to facilities for working with various model organisms and cell culture. The department fosters a research environment that supports translational and interdisciplinary projects, with opportunities for collaboration through local and regional research institutions and partnerships with healthcare providers. A startup package is available to help establish the candidate's research program and support their early career development. Primary Responsibilities: Teaching three courses per semester, which may include undergraduate and graduate lecture and/or lab sections. Potential courses include, but are not limited to, Immunology, Developmental Biology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or other related courses in the faculty member’s discipline. Establishing an active research program involving undergraduate and graduate students, supported by external funding. Mentoring students in the department. Performing service activities that contribute to the success of the Department and the mission of the university. |
