Job Summary: | The University of West Florida, ranked as a Best Regional University by US News & World Report, invites applicants for a full-time, twelve-month, non-tenure accruing position for Director of Clinical Education (DCE) in the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences-Respiratory Therapy (BSHS-RT) program. The Director of Clinical Education must be responsible for all aspects of the clinical experiences of students enrolled in the program, including organization, administration, continuous review and revision, planning for and development of clinical sites for evolving clinical practice skills, and the general effectiveness of the clinical experience in the BSHS-RT program. In addition, the successful candidate will participate in faculty activities (teaching, service, and potentially research), as well as being responsible for the coordination of student clinical experiences as well as overseeing clinical faculty and staff professional development in the BSHS-RT program. The DCE will have educational and administrative responsibilities. This position will be based at our campus located in Pensacola, FL. The following description is intended to indicate different levels and types of direct and indirect duties that will be required of the full-time faculty member. Description of Essential Job Duties: Clinical Rotation Responsibilities ● Establishes goals and objectives for the programs’ clinical rotations ● Ensures all students appropriately complete Clinical Practicum readiness checklist ● Develops & implements pre-clinical competencies checkoffs into curriculum for students prior to start of clinical rotations ● Coordinates clinical site orientations for students and clinical faculty/staff ● Attends and participates in the clinical site orientations for students and clinical faculty/staff ● Ensures that students are oriented to the Policies and Procedures of the clinical site in which they are assigned ● Organizes clinical rotations, assigns students, and assures that clinical competencies of clinical experiences are completed ● Coordinates the evaluation of students, clinical faculty, and clinical sites ● Maintains records for completion of clinical competencies and evaluations associated with clinical rotations ● Ensures that feedback from clinical competencies and evaluations is provided in a timely manner and action plans are written to address deficiencies ● Fosters communication with clinical faculty/staff through meetings and/or consultation ● Establishes and maintains appropriate clinical affiliate agreements with clinical sites ● Has regular and consistent contact with students, clinical faculty, and clinical affiliates ● Assists Program Director with setup/revision of any new or existing clinical affiliations ● Assists with coordinating health-related community service projects/events Faculty Responsibilities ● Effectively teaches assigned courses ● Promotes evidence-based practices ● Serves on Departmental, College, and University committees ● Serves on Program Advisory Board ● Attends scheduled program & department meetings ● Actively involved in professional service commitments ● Participates in professional development opportunities ● Completes the CoARC Key Personnel Training Program ● Assists Program Director with any disciplinary situations ● Assists Program Director in review of program curriculum and NBRC exam matrices ● Meets regularly with Program Director to review and establish program goals ● Assists Program Director in selection of textbooks, equipment purchases, and instructional supplies ● Participates in student recruitment opportunities and public awareness events ● Performs other duties as assigned Professional Responsibilities ● Provides continuing professional education to clinical faculty/staff ● Assists with completion of clinical faculty/staff orientations and necessary competencies ● Maintains active clinical credentials, certifications, & licensures This is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and/or skills required for this position. Minimum Qualifications: | Expected to hold a doctorate or terminal master’s degree in the discipline. Must have a certification and/or licensure as speciated by the department of the appointment. Must have experience in clinical or professional practice and show promise of excellence in teaching, clinical supervision and/or direction (as appropriate to the discipline), and professional productivity and service, including but not limited to clinical service. |
Position Qualifications: | ● An earned master’s degree in respiratory care, health sciences, education, management, or a related field ● At least four (4) years of experience in the respiratory care field; with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care ● At least two (2) years’ experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a CoARC-accredited respiratory care educational program or as a clinical faculty member/preceptor for students of such programs ● Holds a valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential and current state license ● Demonstrates abilities in teaching, student advisement, committee service, management, and administration ● Off-campus travel required ● RRT-based performance requirements, including but not limited to mobility, visual, & hearing standards as well as tactile & motor skills ● Florida RT state licensure-based performance requirements, including but not limited to mobility, visual, & hearing standards as well as tactile & motor skills ● Updated health requirement documentation for all approved clinical site affiliates |
Preferred Qualifications | ● An earned doctorate in a field appropriate to providing academic leadership for the BSHS-RT program ● Demonstrated active participation in relevant professional associations ● Demonstrated leadership role in organizations or societies related to the profession |
