Job Summary: | The UWF Historic Trust Archives seeks a graduate student to assist the archivist with routine tasks. Candidates will work under the supervision of the archivist to provide assistance during research appointments, pack and coordinate transfers of special collections, and occasionally to perform tasks related to the care of physical and analog materials, following archival standards and procedures. This is an in-person position in the Hilton-Green Research Room located in downtown Pensacola. These positions are open to graduate students only. Prior library, archives and/or museum experience is not required, but would be helpful. Graduate Assistants work 10-20 hours per week. Shifts are 9:30-4:15 Tuesday – Friday. Essential Duties include: • Supervise the reading room, providing assistance to archives patrons and ensuring security of materials • Overseeing daily operations when the Archivist is absent • Retrieve material from the stacks; shelve and assist in stack maintenance for in-process and newly processed collections • Create and update records in in-house databases to support processing and conservation tracking • Describe archival materials in a variety of stages, create file inventories, descriptions of folder contents, and summaries for the contents of entire collections. • Research and write historical and biographical notes for the creators of archival collections. • Sort, organize and arrange manuscripts and archival material, in alphabetical, chronological, or other appropriate order in accordance with local practice and documented procedures • Identify problems associated with identification and proper handling of historical and literary manuscripts, and flags them for review by the archivist • Re-house material into archival containers and perform other routine procedures to arrange for the preservation of materials (e.g., preservation photocopying of fragile materials) • Print box and folder labels from the electronic finding aid and labels boxes and folders |

Minimum Qualifications: | Applicants must be a graduate student at the University of West Florida and pursuing work related to the student’s graduate studies program. |
Position Qualifications: | • Interest in local history and archival resources. • Strong oral and written communication skills • Specific computer skills including standard office applications and specialized software • The student must be an admitted, degree-seeking student in a Master’s, Specialist, or Doctoral program. • The student must be enrolled in at least 6 hours of graduate-level coursework in the Fall and Spring semesters and at least 3 hours in the Summer semester. • The student must be in Good Academic Standing (maintain a 3.0 GPA and not be on academic probation). • GAs whose first language is not English must obtain a TOEFL Listening/Comprehension score of 23. English proficiency training is available through UWF International Affairs. |
