Job Summary: The Department of Theatre at the University of West Florida invites applicants to apply for an Visiting Assistant Professor of Scenic and Lighting Design to begin mid-august 2023 (Fall Term). This is a 1-4 year appointment. The ideal candidate will have at least three to five years of professional and/or academic work in scenic and lighting design. The Theatre Department at UWF offers a BFA in Design/Technology, a BA in theatre, a BFA in Musical Theatre, and a BFA in Acting.

Responsibilities will include designing and/or overseeing, two musicals and two plays per season. Teaching courses 12 credits in courses such as Scenic and Lighting Design, Introduction to Technical Theatre as well as other courses in the field of theatre. The ideal candidate will engage in artist mentoring for students, academic advising, serve on academic committees, and serve as an active and energetic member of recruiting for the Department of Theatre. This position collaborates with a Staff Technical Director on all scenic, lighting, props, and painting.

Minimum Qualifications: Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a strong commitment to teaching, academic research, and service.
Position Qualifications: • MFA in Theatrical Design
• Successful College-level teaching experience preferred
• Extensive and varied professional design experience
Preferred Qualifications • Ability to work within a collaborative faculty environment
• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
• Ability to work effectively and patiently with students
• Drive to develop a strong, high-quality technical theatre program
