Job Summary: |
The Assistant Director of Housing Facilities is responsible for the overall direction of the following departmental areas: Facilities and ResNet. The Assistant Director of Housing Facilities has the primary responsibility of development and delivery of services and programs, which produce a residential experience that ensures the quality of life, well-being, and personal development of our student population. This position also ensures compliance with fire and building regulations and codes, management of short and long term projects, and supervision of Housing Facilities staff. |

Position Qualifications: |
Vast knowledge of University Housing operations and Housing facilities, prior budgeting experience, direct supervision experience, and strategic planning. |
Preferred Qualifications |
Master’s degree in college student personnel, facilities and/or construction management, or a closely related field, and a minimum of three years of full-time experience. Preference may be given to candidates with post master’s experience. Prior supervision of professional staff. Experience with building and construction management, building regulations and codes, and/or capital projects planning. Demonstrated experience working with diverse professional staff and college student populations in living/learning residential communities. |
Essential Functions / Job Duties: |
- 45% - The Assistant Director of Housing Facilities provides leadership and supervision in the following areas: Housing Facilities staff, building projects, maintenance, and ResNet. The Assistant Director responsibilities include professional staff supervision and evaluation of staff. The Assistant Director of Housing Facilities will also have administrative duties and will participate in and provide professional staff development for the continued growth and development of Housing employees. Along with these, the Assistant Director of Housing Facilities will supervise the day to day operations and facilitate future planning of the following programs: ResNet, planned, routine, preventative and emergency maintenance, repair and replacement timelines, construction and renovation projects, key management, security cameras, fire and weather related drills, and building compliance. This position serves as the direct report and communication liaison for collaborative projects on residence hall properties, including site-supervision of the Facilities/Maintenance/Plant Operations staff. The Assistant Director of Housing Facilities will provide oversight for the Housing Facilities Superintendent in his/her recruitment, selection, training, supervision, evaluation and ongoing development of the Housing Facilities staff. The Assistant Director of Housing Facilities will collaborate with HRL team members to efficiently manage facilities-related resident assignments/changes, move-in/move-out processes associated with each academic term. The Assistant Director of Housing Facilities functions provides routine progress and information reports to the Director of Housing and Residence Life and non day-to-day decisions are made in consultation with supervisor/Director. Day-to-day task management is overseen independently by the Assistant Director of Housing Facilities. - (Essential)
- 25% - The Assistant Director of Housing Facilities will work closely with the Director of Housing and Residence Life regarding the budget planning process and is responsible for controlling and making recommendations for new or expanded expenditures within that individual’s functional area of responsibility. The Assistant Director of Housing Facilities will work collaboratively with the Director of Housing and Residence Life to assess programs and services, create strategic long-term plans for future staffing and facility growth to support the departmental mission. The Assistant Director of Housing Facilities will serve as a member of Housing and Residence Life Leadership Team, departmental committees and task force, and Assistant Director level of on-call rotation. - (Essential)
- 10% - The Assistant Director of Housing Facilities plays a key role in assessing the future facilities needs for the department and assists with all aspects of capital projects and new construction. Furthermore, the Assistant Director of Housing Facilities is involved in all phases of master planning and design work. Devise and conduct on-going strategic assessment and revision of HRL policies, procedures and protocols to gauge current efficiency/effectiveness of resident satisfaction levels. Establish and maintain excellent customer service rapport and working relationships with diverse resident/student groups, parents, university guests, campus faculty and administrative units regarding important physical facilities issues. - (Essential)
- 9% - The Assistant Director of Housing Facilities will be tasked with researching vendors and materials as well as reaching out to other Universities for relevant national "Best Practices" information for eventual implementation. The Assistant Director of Housing Facilities will be responsible for receiving, reviewing, and the timely payment of vendor invoices for HRL Facility purchases. The Assistant Director of Housing Facilities will work with the Business Coordinator regarding the weekly departmental check run. The Assistant Director of Housing Facilities will submit timely paperwork for their pcard purchases to the Business Coordinator. - (Essential)
- 5% - In the absence of the Director of Housing & Residence Life, the Assistant Director of Housing Facilities may assume decision making authority for the department within their area of supervision. - (Essential)
- 5% - Develop, implement and coordinate HRL emergency maintenance (after-hours) protocols and responses and HRL portion of on-going campus-wide Emergency Response protocols and Evacuation plans. Devise and implement comprehensive renovation plans and budgets for improving and upgrading residential building security, facilities and initiatives. Conduct requisite staff training sessions. - (Essential)
