Job Summary: Established in 2006, UWF Explore Summer Camps is an academic-based summer camp program offering a variety of summer camp themes each week from Explore Hogwarts to LEGO Robotics. Summer camp assistants work with lead instructors to deliver hands-on, fun experiences to youth aged 5-17. A mixture of STEAM-based academics plus a creative atmosphere results in a one-of-a-kind summer camp (STEAM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering, art, and math).

Working with Explore Camps provides camp assistants with a unique and meaningful summer job experience.

The lead assistant is a crucial leadership role that gives you an opportunity to interact with educational professionals, be directly mentored by UWF staff, and make a difference in with the youth in our community.

The hours will vary within the range of 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Position Qualifications: Applicants must be a student enrolled for credit. Applicants may be a student at UWF or any other college, university or high school. A student enrolled at an institution other than UWF must provide proof of attendance by submitting a registration/fee payment receipt from the school they will attend.
Preferred Qualifications • Experience being directly responsible for youth in a classroom or camp setting.
• Experience working with others in a team.
• Self-starter and strong time management skills.
• Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Apps and ability to quickly learn Camp Management Software.
• Comfortable working in a team environment and willing to share knowledge, give advice, and act as a leader to youth and other camp assistants.

Essential Functions / Job Duties:
  • 25% - Prepare supply boxes, prepare necessary supplies and maintain inventory and shopping lists for each camp program. Setup and breakdown necessary supplies, signs, and other needs for the camps each week. - (Essential)
  • 25% - Run reports, send emails, and prepare weekly paperwork and nametags. Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports and daily attendance. - (Essential)
  • 25% - Provide positive leadership and be a role model for both campers and camp assistants. Develop, plan, lead, and supervise extended care activities with the assistance of camp assistants. Ensure the safety and well-being of participants by being aware of participant locations at all times, sharing and enforcing appropriate safety regulations and procedures, and applying appropriate behavior management techniques. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Assist with needs of the classroom instructors - (Essential)
  • 5% - Act as a classroom substitute when instructors are out to deliver learning content. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Participate and lead parts of team meetings - (Essential)
  • 5% - Other duties as necessary - (Essential)
