Job Summary: The University of West Florida (UWF) is seeking applicants for Director of the Florida Public Archaeology Network (FPAN). FPAN was established as a program of UWF in 2005 and serves the state through eight regions. The Director oversees the operation of the network from a Coordinating Center in downtown Pensacola, which also houses a museum, classroom, and a public archaeology lab. From the Coordinating Center, the Director supervises UWF staff assigned to headquarters operations and two regional offices in northwest Florida, and oversees annual contracts with university partners Flagler College, Florida Atlantic University, and University of South Florida who operate the other six regions. The FPAN Director exemplifies public archaeology, often delivering public programs and lectures, collaborating with local communities and organizations, serving on advisory boards, liaising with state partners, providing expert guidance on engagement strategies, and publishing the results of public archaeology research. This position reports directly to the dean of the College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities, and is responsible for interaction with the University and an advisory board, and the oversight of personnel, planning, programming, budget, contracts, and all other operational details of this program. Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in appropriate area of specialization from an accredited institution and six years of experience advising, teaching, mentoring or significantly interacting with college students.
Position Qualifications: Master’s degree in Anthropology/Archaeology, or closely related field. Knowledge of public and/or community archaeology, project management and administration, grant and/or contract administration, and historic/heritage preservation. Must have superior leadership and communication skills, ability to manage a complex calendar, travel frequently, and work effectively within the University and with the Florida Division of Historical Resources and other outside partners and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. in Anthropology/Archaeology
Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA)
