Job Description

The Veterinary Care Assistant will provide support to clinical faculty and staff in the Animal Cancer Care and Research Center of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine's Comparative Oncology Research Center in Roanoke, Virginia. Will provide medical and husbandry assistance with small animals in a veterinary hospital setting. Fulfill clerical responsibilities as necessary. This position may be considered essential, and may be required to report to work in emergency and authorized closing situations.

Required Qualifications

Proficient with basic veterinary nursing skills; Knowledge of companion animal anatomy and physiology; Previous experience with small animal patient handling; Excellent communication skills; Team player; Experience with veterinary software medical record data entry and MS Word, Excel, Google Docs and Sheets; Rabies prophylaxis (provided by employer); Ability to safely handle up to 50 lbs. Minimum 2 years experience in a veterinary hospital

Preferred Qualifications

Completion of a veterinary assistant program; Experience working in a veterinary clinical setting; Versed in oncology and chemotherapy.
