Under the direction of the ILL Lending Supervisor the Interlibrary Loan Assistant supports the daily processing within the ILL Unit. This may include searching bibliographic citations to fill Virginia Tech patrons’ and other libraries’ requested materials either print or electronic. Retrieving requested materials from library stacks and updating status. Preparing shipments for print/media materials as needed. Serving as secondary customer service representative for the unit both via email and phone as needed.
-Experience working with the public and customer service
-Experience explaining and applying policies and procedures
-Work experience in an academic or public library that required electronic searching of materials
-Demonstrated knowledge of how print and electronic library resources are arranged
-Good communication and interpersonal skills to communicate correspondences to a diverse community
-Demonstrated good problem solving and investigative skills
-Experience using Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office applications, such as Word and Excel, in addition to Google Drive
-Work experience with accuracy and attention to detail with minimal supervision
-Interlibrary Loan experience in an academic library preferred
-Demonstrated knowledge of library practices/procedures and operations, including knowledge of Library of Congress classification
-Working knowledge of CONTU Guidelines, to fair use, and copyright law (title 17 U.S. code)
-Experience working with the Alma Library Service Platform, OCLC WorldCat, ILLiad, and RapidILL
-Working knowledge and experience with academic library e-journal/e-book database resource tools
-Knowledge of UPS and/or USPS shipping procedures
-Experience working with scanner equipment/software
Non-Exempt: Eligible for overtime
$15.79-$16.22/hour dependent on qualifications and experience
Must be able to work school breaks and holidays.
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
