The Prototyping Studio Technical Lead provides technical expertise and operational oversight for the University Libraries' Prototyping Studio. The Technical Lead collaborates with faculty, researchers, and students to integrate prototyping tools into academic projects, research initiatives, and creative endeavors. This position is responsible for oversight of studio technical equipment, supervising student maintenance staff, and ensuring high-quality service for all patrons using the space.
This position reports to the Manager, Prototyping & 3D Scanning Studios and is a key member of the University Libraries' Studios Network, a collection of spaces that provide access to emerging technologies and fabrication tools. The Technical Lead fosters an inclusive and welcoming environment for all patrons, ensuring that the Prototyping Studio serves as a hub for innovation and learning.
- Demonstrated experience with CNC machining, 3D printing, laser cutting, and digital fabrication technologies.
- Experience troubleshooting and maintaining additive and subtractive manufacturing equipment.
- Experience supervising, mentoring, or training student employees or technical staff.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver workshops or training sessions related to prototyping technologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, with experience working in an inclusive and collaborative environment
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, industrial design, digital fabrication, or related field.
- Experience working in academia and/or research environment
- Experience working in a makerspace, library studio, or digital fabrication lab.
- Familiarity with CAD, CAM, and digital modeling software (e.g., SolidWorks, Blender, ZBrush).
- Prior experience developing technical documentation and user guides.
- Experience using emerging fabrication technologies and staying ahead of industry trends.
Non-Exempt: Eligible for overtime
$38,000-$39,000 dependent on experience and qualifications
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
