About the team

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Legal Assistant to join our Insurance Litigation team in Canberra.

Working closely with Principal Lawyers and a team of lawyers, you will contribute to a broad range of matters across CTP, public liability, medical malpractice, health and regulatory, institutional abuse, recoveries and property damage. You will play an important role in helping the team deliver practical, timely and commercially focused outcomes for clients.

As a pivotal member of the team, you will provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support across a varied workload with competing priorities and important deadlines. Your responsibilities will include preparing WIP and pre-bills, supporting monthly billing and debtor management, opening new matters, conducting conflict checks, maintaining electronic files, liaising with courts, preparing briefs, drafting and amending legal correspondence and documents, assisting with reporting processes and providing broader support to the team as required.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • At least three years’ experience in a legal administration or legal assistant role within a law firm or professional services environment
  • Ideally, exposure to Insurance Litigation matters
  • A strong client service focus and the ability to build positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines with confidence
  • A high level of professionalism, discretion and integrity, with the ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive, can-do approach to your work
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong typing and document management skills, including a typing speed of approximately 70 wpm
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, with experience in Aderant Expert and iManage viewed favourably
  • A collaborative mindset and genuine willingness to support others and contribute positively to the team
  • Completion of Higher School Certificate (or equivalent)
