About the Role

This fantastic opportunity is for a Junior Solicitor to join our high - performing Insurance Litigation team in our Sydney office. Ideally, you will be a 1- 3 PQE lawyer with a keen interest in insurance litigation.

This fast-paced role will see you working on a wide variety of litigated and non – litigated public liability, product liability and professional indemnity matters. Key duties and responsibilities

Provision of legal advice to clients

  • Providing  exceptional client service and legal advice to clients as and when required in the context of working within a team environment;
  • Carrying out tasks delegated to the practitioner in accordance with the delegation;
  • Managing matters delegated to the practitioner in accordance with the delegation, at all times keeping the practitioner’s Principal informed of progress, and referring to the Principal any issues arising that are beyond the scope of the delegation or the experience of the practitioner;
  • Responding to client queries in a timely manner;
  • Ensuring that the provision of legal advice to each client is provided, and the client’s matter is managed, in accordance with the requirements set out in the client’s engagement of Meridian Lawyers, relevant professional conduct rules and other statutory requirements;
  • Reviewing all files at least on a quarterly basis for follow up, unless the client’s engagement of Meridian Lawyers stipulates a more regular review;
  • Working closely with the other members of the team to ensure that timely advice is provided to all clients of the practice.

Professional, business and team development

  • Participating in continuing professional development workshops that are relevant to the practitioner’s practice within the team, whether held within Meridian Lawyers or externally, so as to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements;
  • Participating, to the extent practicable having regard to the practitioner’s experience and seniority, in Meridian Lawyers’ business development initiatives, including by making appropriate contributions to the firm’s  business growth strategies.  For example, this may involve the preparation of content for journals, website content or other media, presenting papers at conferences, presentations at client/stakeholder workshops, attending networking events or entertaining clients;
  • Attending and participating in team meetings. 

Administration and practice management

  • Ensuring that electronic time sheets are completed in Aderant Expert on a daily basis, whether by the practitioner or administrative support;
  • Using all reasonable endeavors to achieve revenue budgets set for the practitioner, having regard to workflow within the team;
  • Ensuring files are up to date and in conjunction with the administrative team that they are maintained in a neat and orderly fashion;
  • For matters under the practitioner’s management: monitoring and managing work in progress and debtors and, in conjunction with the practitioner’s Principal, invoicing clients and following up debtors.

Other

  • Undertake any other duties as required by the practitioner’s Principal. 

About you

To be considered for this opportunity, you will need:

  • A completed Law degree
  • Genuine interest in Insurance Litigation Law
  • 1-2 years post – admission experience gained working within an Insurance Litigation practice team’
  • A pro – active client service orientated attitude with an excellent work ethic
  • A collaborative approach to your work and pride yourself, on your commitment, resilience and passion for your work
  • Excellent communication and organisational skill
