About the role
In this role, you will support the delivery of building services across permit assessments, statutory compliance and customer enquiries, while developing your professional skills as a Building Surveyor. Working alongside experienced professionals, you will gain practical experience interpreting building legislation, assessing applications and contributing to safe and compliant building outcomes for the community.

Work type: Fixed-Term, Full-time opportunity (24-month contract)
Classification: Band 4 $76,010 pa plus super

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with building compliance activities to help ensure buildings meet legislative and safety requirements.
  • Working closely with experienced Building Surveyors to develop technical knowledge and practical industry experience.
  • Supporting the assessment of building permit and report and consent applications.
  • Providing advice and assistance to customers, stakeholders and internal teams on general building matters.
  • Assisting with compliance, statutory registration and building services activities.
  • Developing practical knowledge of building legislation and regulatory requirements through on-the-job learning and mentoring.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a genuine interest in building surveying and a desire to develop your career in a supportive local government environment. You will enjoy working with people, solving problems and delivering positive outcomes for customers and the community.

Essential Experience:

  • Currently studying or recently completed a qualification in Building Surveying or a related discipline.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a customer-focused approach.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • A current and valid Victorian Driver’s Licence.

Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check and a Working with Children's Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
