About the role
Working closely with the Commercial Analysis, you’ll be the analytical engine behind major service reviews, insourcing/outsourcing evaluations, and investment frameworks. You will turn complex financial data into clear, strategic stories that ensure our community receives maximum value from every dollar spent.
Work type: Permanent, full-time.
Classification: Band 7, $109,342 + super.
Key responsibilities include:
- Commercial & Service Reviews: Execute rigorous financial and commercial analysis to support complex service reviews, operational improvement initiatives, and insourcing vs. outsourcing assessments.
- Benefits & Cost Modelling: Build and maintain unit pricing structures, cost models, and benefits frameworks to quantify both the financial and non-financial impacts of proposed service changes.
- Market Intelligence & Benchmarking: Conduct macro-industry research, yield tracking, and performance benchmarking to build assumptions for future business cases.
- Commercial Storytelling: Translate technical, data-heavy analysis into clear insights, executive briefs, and compelling recommendations for non-financial leaders.
- Governance & Framework Alignment: Provide specialist commercial advice and develop formal recommendations that strictly align with our Service Review Framework, governance requirements, and organisational policies.
About you
You are a numbers person who loves the strategy behind the data. You know how to build a complex spreadsheet, but your real superpower is looking up from the screen, finding the narrative in the numbers, and telling a compelling story to a room of diverse stakeholders. You are comfortable working independently, navigating grey areas, and bringing a commercial lens to public value.
What You Bring:
- Qualifications: A tertiary degree in Commerce, Finance, Economics, Business, Accounting, or a related discipline (or equivalent verified industry experience).
- Commercial Acumen: Demonstrated experience building feasibility models, cost structures, or detailed financial evaluations within a complex organisation.
- Analytical Storytelling: A proven ability to interpret raw datasets, isolate the critical trends, and synthesize findings into practical, narrative-driven recommendations for leadership.
- Modern Toolkit & Innovation: Experience or strong interest in leveraging emerging tech, AI tools, or data automation to streamline analysis and enhance modelling efficiency.
- Stakeholder Influence: Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a track record of building collaborative relationships, guiding diverse teams, and clearly articulating the "why" behind financial data.
- Project Delivery: Strong time-management and planning skills, with the ability to balance multiple analytical pieces under shifting timelines.
Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
