About the role
In this role, you will support informed decision-making across the organisation by delivering robust financial insights and strategic advice. You'll partner with project managers and delivery leaders to strengthen financial capability, enhance governance practices, and help drive sound financial outcomes that support Council's long-term financial sustainability. The role sits with the Financial Planning and Analysis team and provides dedicated financial support to Council’s capital program, including major infrastructure projects.

Classification: Band 7, $109,342 + super (from the 1st July)

Key responsibilities include:

  • Deliver advanced management accounting and financial analysis including monthly performance reporting and insights.
  • Analyse actual, budget and forecast results, identify financial risks, issues and opportunities, and prepare clear recommendations for leaders.
  • Partner with capital project managers and delivery teams to provide financial oversight, insights and advice across the project lifecycle.
  • Resolve complex accounting, cost allocation and data integrity matters in line with policy, standards and best practice.
  • Act as a subject‑matter expert in financial systems and reporting tools, supporting effective data use and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to improvements in management accounting processes, capital project governance and financial data quality.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline and at least 5 years’ experience in management accounting or financial analyst roles.

Experience supporting capital programs, infrastructure projects or project-based environments will be highly regarded.

Essential Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis in complex and/or project based environments.
  • Advanced analytical, problem‑solving and financial modelling skills.
  • Proficiency in enterprise financial systems (e.g. Oracle Financials) and advanced Excel.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non‑financial audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver accurate, high‑quality outputs.

Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
