About the role
In this role, you will support the City’s brand and reputation by delivering clear, timely and engaging communications for internal and external audiences. You will work closely with stakeholders to proactively share positive City stories and respond to day-to-day media and communications needs.
Work type: Fixed term (8 month contract), full-time
Classification: Band 6 Commencing at $95,760 pa plus super
Key responsibilities include:
- Identifying, developing and publishing positive news stories that promote the City’s projects, services and priorities.
- Researching, writing and editing content for a range of communication channels, including media, digital, print and social media.
- Preparing media releases and responding to media enquiries as required.
- Creating and coordinating photo and video content to support communications objectives.
- Contributing to the City’s social media channels, including out-of-hours work as rostered.
- Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver coordinated communication activities.
- Ensuring all communications comply with legislative requirements, City policies and organisational values.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a strong communications background and the ability to deliver high-quality content in a fast-paced local government environment. You will bring sound judgement, political awareness and a collaborative approach to storytelling and stakeholder engagement.
Essential Experience:
- A tertiary qualification in journalism, communications, media, public relations, marketing or a related discipline, and a current Working With Children Check.
- Demonstrated experience researching, writing, editing and publishing content for internal and external audiences, preferably within local or public sector environments.
- Proven ability to produce professional communications content across multiple channels under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for local government and community audiences.
- Strong understanding of contemporary media and communications practice, including social media, digital platforms and web publishing.
- Well-developed political awareness and understanding of current affairs relevant to public administration and local government.
- Experience creating or coordinating photography and video content to support communications outcomes.
- Sound knowledge of legislative and legal requirements relevant to communications, including the Victorian Local Government Act and publishing obligations.
