About the role
In this role, you will support the smooth and effective delivery of services within the Capital Delivery Department by contributing to the planning, design and delivery of capital works projects. You’ll undertake engineering investigations, prepare design documentation, assist with project analysis, and provide important administrative and coordination support. As a proactive team member, you’ll help maintain strong relationships and deliver accurate, timely advice to staff and stakeholders to support informed decision-making and successful project outcomes.

Classification: Band 7 Commencing at $106,158 pa plus super
Key responsibilities include:
- Experience in producing accurate, compliant and cost-effective civil engineering designs, including road and drainage design using Civil3D, Civil Site Design, and current standards.
- Ability to investigate civil infrastructure, drainage and traffic issues and deliver practical, innovative solutions aligned with departmental plans.
- Strong technical skills in engineering analysis, documentation and reporting, producing high-quality outputs to support decision-making.
- Effective communication and stakeholder engagement, providing advice and maintaining professional relationships with internal teams, external partners, and statutory authorities.
- Commitment to teamwork and knowledge sharing, including mentoring less experienced staff and supporting a positive, inclusive team culture.
- Ability to manage workload, meet deadlines, and monitor progress, ensuring efficient delivery of designs and alignment with organisational strategies and regulations.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a Civil Engineering qualification or significant civil design experience, expertise in road, drainage, and traffic engineering, and proficiency in Civil 3D and Civil Site Design. Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills are essential, along with experience in technical reporting, Microsoft Office, and exposure to Local Government or design projects, including some project management experience.
Essential Experience:
- Relevant qualification in Civil Engineering and or significant processional experience in civil design principles and practices in a comparable organisation.
- Demonstrated experience in road and drainage design using current principles and standards.
- Proficient use of Civil 3D and Civil Site Design software.
- Demonstrated experience in Traffic Engineering Design and Engineering investigation work.
- Demonstrated people skills to support, influence, and collaborate with relevant stakeholders.
- Good problem solving and stakeholder management skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders to achieve task outcomes.
- Experience in a Local Government or design related office.
- Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
