About the role
In this role you’ll play a key role in shaping how our community grows. Working alongside other experienced Team Leaders, you’ll contribute to and oversee the assessment and processing of a wide range of Planning Permit applications, ensuring decisions are made efficiently, accurately, and with outstanding customer service.
Work type: Permanent, full-time.
Classification: Band 8, $122,040 pa plus super
Key responsibilities include:
- Supervise the investigation, evaluation and reporting of applications by a team of professional town planners and staff.
- Coaching, training and appraisal for a team of professionals in accordance with Council’s policies and guidelines.
- Carrying out recruitment and development of staff including inductions and training and assisting with the professional needs of the team.
- Monitor and report the team's performance and improvements.
- Implement systems, processes, and workflows to deliver results, ensuring relevant policies, governance mechanisms, and regulations are adhered to.
- Ensuring appropriate allocation, monitoring and scheduling of work to meet the requirements of the Unit and customer expectations.
- Assist in the development of the statutory planning budget.
- Provide subject matter expertise and advice to leaders and other relevant stakeholders.
- Represent Council at VCAT, Planning Committee Meetings and other public forums.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in Town Planning or Urban Studies or similar related field and substantial professional experience within the industry.
Essential Experience:
- Demonstrated people management skills to support, influence, and foster a productive team environment.
- Sound knowledge of planning legislation, regulations, and policies.
- Well-developed writing, presentation, and negotiation skills to influence stakeholders and achieve support for objectives.
- Proven ability to meet time frames in a demanding environment.
- Highly developed analytical, investigative and communication skills.
- The ability to negotiate and resolve conflict.
Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
