About the role
In this role, you will develop and deliver sales strategies to increase domestic and international business events across Geelong and The Bellarine. You’ll build strong industry relationships, coordinate compelling bid proposals, host client familiarisations, and champion the Meet Geelong brand at tradeshows and industry events.
Working closely with the Business Events Manager, you’ll play a key role in driving Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) market growth, supporting members, and showcasing the region’s premium venues and services. You will be responsible for delivering high-impact business events sales initiatives through tradeshows, in-region and in-market events, supported by proactive sales calls, client appointments and site visits to drive destination visibility, generate qualified leads and secure new business for Geelong & The Bellarine.
Work type: Permanent, Part-Time (4 days a week)
Classification: Band 7 Commencing at $106,158 pa plus super pro rata.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering business events sales strategies, including sales calls, appointments and site visits.
- Coordinating tailored bid campaigns and proposals for key markets.
- Hosting client familiarisation programs and representing Meet Geelong at industry events.
- Supporting tactical marketing and communication campaigns to build brand awareness.
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with corporates, associations, PCOs and tourism operators.
- Providing subject matter expertise and insights to internal and external stakeholders.
- Supporting membership growth and assisting local operators with product development.
- Planning, reporting and contributing to business plans and strategic priorities.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a relevant qualification in marketing, tourism or a related field, or substantial sales experience.
Essential experience:
- Proven sales experience in the business events, tourism or MICE sector.
- Strong understanding of Association, Corporate and PCO markets.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to identify and convert business opportunities through traditional and non-traditional sales channels.
- Strong project management skills and confidence working autonomously within a small team.
- Ability to collaborate and represent the region at conferences, sales missions and trade events.
- Willingness to undertake interstate and international travel as required.
- Hold a current, valid driving licence.
Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check and a Working with Children's Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
