About the role
Play a key role in managing and optimising the City of Greater Geelong’s fleet and plant assets. In this diverse and hands-on position, you’ll support the strategic planning, procurement, and replacement of vehicles and equipment to ensure they are safe, cost-effective, and fit for purpose.
You’ll assist in delivering the Ten-Year Plant Replacement Program, guide procurement activities, and drive improvements in asset utilisation, safety, and operational efficiency through effective use of In-Vehicle Management Systems (IVMS). Your work will help ensure our fleet supports essential community services and aligns with Council’s sustainability and service delivery goals.
This role offers the opportunity to collaborate across departments, contribute to continuous improvement, and make a tangible impact on how we deliver services to the Geelong community.

Classification: Band 6 Commencing at $95,760 pa plus super
Key responsibilities include:
- Fleet and Asset Management – Support the effective management, utilisation, and recordkeeping of Council’s fleet and plant assets, ensuring vehicles and equipment are safe, fit for purpose, and cost-effective.
- Procurement and Planning – Assist in developing and implementing the Ten-Year Plant Replacement Program and coordinate fleet procurement, replacement, and disposal activities in line with Council procedures and budgets.
- In-Vehicle Management Systems (IVMS) – Oversee the operation, compliance, and data integrity of IVMS, analysing data to enhance safety, operational planning, and asset utilisation.
- Policy, Compliance and Improvement – Contribute to the development and review of fleet policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with legislation, best practice, and continuous improvement objectives.
- Training and Stakeholder Support – Deliver operator training and familiarisation sessions, provide subject matter advice, and build positive relationships with internal stakeholders and external agencies.
- Team and Service Excellence – Support a collaborative, customer-focused team culture and contribute to a commercially driven, innovative approach to fleet management and service delivery.
About you
You’re a skilled and organised professional with experience in fleet management, plant operations, or vehicle maintenance. You bring a practical mindset, strong stakeholder skills, and a commitment to safety and innovation. You’ll enjoy working in a collaborative team that values professionalism, continuous improvement, and service excellence.
Essential Experience:
- Relevant qualification in Vehicle Mechanics and or significant professional experience in specialist field(s) in a comparable organisation.
- Good problem solving and stakeholder management skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders to achieve task outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience in fleet asset procurement and disposal aligned with current best practice, including financial planning and budget management.
- Substantial experience administering a diverse fleet using asset and maintenance management systems.
- Victorian Drivers Licence
- Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
