About the role
In this role, you will lead a skilled and motivated team responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality civil infrastructure across the municipality. This role plays a key part in shaping Geelong’s growing landscape overseeing the construction and adoption of new roads, drains, footpaths, waterways and wetlands that support sustainable development. You’ll provide technical guidance, operational support and strong leadership to your team, while driving continuous improvement initiatives that enhance customer experience, efficiency and service outcomes for the community.
Work type: Permanent Full Time (Part Time/Job Share will be considered)
Classification: Band 7 Commencing at $106,158 pa plus super
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead, support and develop a diverse team of Inspectors and administrative staff to deliver high-quality subdivision and infrastructure outcomes.
- Oversee compliance with Council standards, permits and legislative requirements for land development and building works.
- Manage the coordination and monitoring of subdivision construction, asset protection and reinstatement activities.
- Provide expert technical and policy advice to internal stakeholders, developers, and contractors on civil infrastructure design and delivery.
- Drive process improvement and innovation to enhance customer service and operational efficiency.
- Contribute to strategic planning, reporting and performance management to ensure unit goals and community outcomes are achieved.
About you
To be successful in this role, you’re an experienced and people-focused leader with a background in civil engineering, land development or construction management. With strong technical knowledge and a collaborative approach, you build trust and confidence with your team, peers and external stakeholders. You excel at problem-solving and planning, balancing operational demands with strategic goals. You’re committed to quality, innovation and continuous improvement and you take pride in delivering infrastructure that makes a lasting difference for the community.
Essential Experience:
- Relevant qualification in Civil Engineering and or significant professional experience in road and drainage construction in a comparable organisation.
- Professional experience in project management and process improvement
- Current Victorian Drivers Licence
- Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check (funded by the City).
