About the role
In this role, you will lead a $25M operation and 100+ staff, keeping roads, drainage, bridges, and cleansing services running at their best. Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintain and facilitate the delivery of the department's vision by communicating it effectively to lead the unit.
  • Motivate the team to deliver on the strategic goals, by translating and making the goals accessible and relevant to the team members for operational success.
  • Lead with self-awareness, resilience, and a commitment to diversity by role modelling inclusive behaviours, coaching team members, and fostering an engaged, results-driven team environment.
  • Facilitate a customer first culture in the business unit and proactively problem-solving to innovatively address challenges in delivering services to customers.
  • Foster strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to actively support and enhance the delivery of services by the maintenance team.
  • Monitor, report, and utilise accurate data to track performance and improvements.
  • Implement systems, processes, and workflows to deliver results, ensuring relevant policies, governance mechanisms, and regulations are adhered to.   
  • Act in the role of custodian for the City Works After Hours Emergency Services Team.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in Construction and/or Asset Maintenance, or a related field; or significant professional experience in a comparable organisation that demonstrates a high level of knowledge and leadership in civil construction or asset maintenance.

Essential Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in mid-level management and/or leadership roles.
  • People management skills to support, influence, and foster a productive team environment. 
  • Well-developed writing, presentation, and negotiation skills to influence stakeholders and achieve support for objectives.
  • Problem solving and stakeholder management skills with the ability to build cooperation and partnerships.
  • Ability to support and champion change ensuring strong stakeholder engagement throughout the process. 
  • Demonstrated skills in business planning and budget management.
  • Working with Children Check (employee).
  • Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
