About the role
In this role you will carry out parks and open space maintenance across reserves, sports grounds, roadsides, and streetscapes, ensuring our community spaces are safe, attractive, and well cared for. You’ll operate mowers, tractors, and other equipment to deliver maintenance programs efficiently and effectively, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and timeliness.

Classification: Band 3 Commencing at $68,775 pa plus super

Key responsibilities include:

  • Experience in parks and reserves maintenance, including mowing, slashing, and equipment operation.
  • Ability to safely operate and maintain plant, machinery, and vehicles in line with regulations.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to support colleagues and assist customers.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to follow processes, escalate issues, and contribute ideas for improvement.
  • Reliable planning and organisational skills to complete tasks on time, maintain records, and use resources efficiently.
  • Commitment to safety, personal development, and demonstrating behaviours consistent with the City’s values.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a trade Certificate in Gardening, Horticulture or equivalent.

Essential:

  • Demonstrated experience in operating a range of Park Maintenance plant and equipment.
  • Communication skills with the ability to follow instructions and demonstrate clear written and verbal communication.
  • Some experience in resolving minor work specific problems or responding to new situations.
  • Demonstrated mechanical knowledge and competence in the use of specific tools relevant to operator maintenance requirements.
  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence and Light Rigid Licence.
  • Current Working with Children Check (employee).
  • Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check and a pre-employment medical assessment as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
