About the role
In this role you will provide an effective and efficient planning advice to service and facilitate the assessment, review and issue of planning permits and approvals. 

As a key member of the City’s Growth Areas Team of statutory planners, you will play a front-line role in the delivery of new and emerging growth area activity centres, subdivisions, housing, and infrastructure approvals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Facilitate the assessment and issue of planning permits and approvals for land use, development, and subdivision proposals, including within growth areas.
  • Providing a professional and customer focused planning advisory service, in a team environment.
  • Represent the City in public forums, legal proceedings and appeal hearings.
  • Mentoring of student planner and other junior staff as required.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in Town Planning, Urban Studies or similar related field and substantial experience in local government town planning.

Essential Experience:

  • A good understanding, practical knowledge and ability to interpret town planning legislation and practices and associated legislation to interpret their meaning.
  • Well-developed analytical, investigative, interpretative and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to resolve conflict and negotiate outcomes.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organise and manage own time to achieve targets within a set timetable.
  • Strong teamwork ethos.
  • Willingness to mentor staff.
  • Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
