About the role
In this role, you will deliver all aspects of the Youth Council portfolio, including the Youth Council Advisory Committee and other youth voice programs across the Geelong municipality. You will be responsible for; driving and monitoring the delivery of key milestones that relate to the Youth Council Advisory Committee, facilitating good communication between  youth council participant’s and the City and providing extensive support and guidance to young people engaged in The City’s leadership programs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Under the direction of the Youth Council Steering Committee, drive, monitor and review the key milestones and tasks relating to the Youth Council Advisory Committee and the Councillor Connect Mentoring Program. 
  • Provide administrative and project support to the Youth Council Steering Committee, ensuring all aspects of Youth Council operations are complete within required timeframes and to a high standard.
  • With the direction of the Coordinator Youth Development, deliver, review and evaluate Youth Council portfolio and other Youth Voice programs.
  • Recruit, support, retain and educate young people in programs aimed at increasing skills and opportunities to participate in Civic life.
  • Facilitate new and innovative processes and activities with young people that strengthen networks and opportunities to participate in Civic life.
  • Engage young people in the planning and implementation of programs and events.  

About you
The ideal candidate for this role will have experience in youth participation, including the delivery of youth voice or youth development programs. You will have the ability to liaise with a diverse range of senior stakeholders, be highly organised, detailed oriented, have a strategic mindset, enjoy finding practical solutions to issues that you face and a passion for mentoring young people to be the best that they can be.

Essential

  • Experience in the area of youth development combined with significant experience in project management, planning, development and implementation of community development and/or youth programs.
  • Experience in providing quality assurance for a range of formal communications including correspondence, briefings, speeches, media releases, submissions and reports.
  • Extensive experience in facilitating and working with groups of young people using a youth participatory framework.
  • An understanding of research principles and methodologies particularly in the youth and community development areas.
  • Tertiary qualifications in the Social Work, Youth Work, Public Relations, Governance, Health Promotion, Project Management or significant experience in a Public Sector, Ministerial and/or a Local Government environment.
  • Availability to work outside of normal business hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process and have a current Working with Children Check.
