About the role
As our Solution Architect Lead, you will be at the forefront of driving technical excellence and ensuring alignment between business requirements and technical solutions. Leveraging your deep expertise in architecture principles and best practices, you will oversee the end-to-end design process, from conceptualisation to implementation, ensuring that our solutions are scalable, reliable, and secure.

Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, engineers, and stakeholders, you will translate business objectives into comprehensive architectural blueprints and roadmaps. Your leadership will be instrumental in guiding and mentoring junior architects, empowering them to excel in their roles and deliver exceptional results.

Work type: Permanent, full-time.
Classification: $162,000 plus Superannuation

Key responsibilities include:

  • Advise in solution architecture and promote a customer first and best practices approach in the department to address challenges in delivering services to City’s customers and community. 
  • Engage and build strategic networks and partnerships with key stakeholders internally and throughout the industry to drive collaboration.
  • Provide subject matter or expert advice to the Directorate, ELT, and other leaders across the organisation.
  • Be responsible for managing the establishment and maintenance of technology designs for the portfolio of products and services in alignment with Enterprise Architecture principles and blueprints.
  • Align objectives and capability to the appropriate architecture, planning and design functions in alignment with the IT strategy and ensure appropriate governance of technology solutions.
  • Working in conjunction with the Enterprise Architect to develop a portfolio direction of the “as-is” and “to-be” solutions.
  • Lead and manage collaborations to deliver strategic goals, by implementing solutions that make the goals accessible and relevant for operational success.
  • Coach and mentor colleagues and team members, uplifting department’s capabilities to meet the requirements of its future strategic goals.
  • Provide deep technology expertise and leadership across systems, projects, initiatives, and operations, including processes, work practices, data, and systems integration.
  • Analyse and report accurate data to regularly report on performance against departmental goals.
  • Design and implement systems, processes, and workflows to deliver results, ensuring relevant policies, governance mechanisms, and regulations are adhered to. 

About you
To be successful in this role you will have significant Professional experience in solution architecture, including leading design workshops, producing detail solution designs, technical specifications and involved in end-to-end delivery of technology solutions across application, integration and infrastructure in both cloud and on-premises environments.

Essential Experience:

  • A tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, and or significant professional experience in a comparable organisation at least 6 years or more.
  • Knowledge of business ecosystems, SaaS, infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), service-oriented architecture (SOA), APIs, open data, microservices, event-driven IT and predictive analytics.
  • Demonstrated people skills to support influence and collaborate with relevant stakeholders.
  • Accomplished negotiation, writing, presentation, and public speaking skills to influence stakeholders and achieve support for department outcomes.
  • Well-developed problem solving and stakeholder management skills with the ability to build cooperation and partnerships.
  • Demonstrated skills in data management practices, system development life cycle management, IT services management, agile and lean methodologies, infrastructure and operations, and EA and ITIL frameworks.
  • Project, program, and solution delivery experience, with proven track record of delivery using best practice and structured methodologies and frameworks.
  • Extensive experience working with different types of agile and product-based principles, methodologies, and frameworks, especially those aligned to digital modernisation.
  • Understanding of existing, new, and emerging technologies, and processing environments.
