Work Schedule:

Mon-Thurs 8-2, flexibility for special events

Rate of Pay:

This position is a grade 15 with a minimum of $29.71 and a mid-point of $39.62. Hourly rate offer will be commensurate with the education/experience, in alignment with the College’s compensation philosophy, and the current CBA, if applicable.

Job Summary:

An employee in this classification performs work of moderate difficulty by supporting and evaluating ESL students and instructors and ensuring grant compliance for the College. Work is distinguished by the ability to advise students and make recommendations for program enhancements. Direction is received by the assigned manager

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

1. Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university and two years’ experience in adult ESL instruction or equivalent combination of training and experience.
2. Working knowledge of second language acquisition.
3. Skill in conducting training.
4. Skill in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite and databases.
6. Considerable skill in organizing work to meet established deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
7. Considerable skill in interpersonal interaction to be applied to a variety of individuals with differing education, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
8. Considerable skill in verbal and written communication.
9. Working skill in operating a personal computer, applicable software and peripheral equipment as well as learning and adapting to new and updated programs and technology.
10. Ability to self-direct and work independently as well as collaborate with a team.
11. Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends when required by the department’s needs.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

1. Master’s degree in TESOL or Linguistics.
2. Knowledge of ICCB adult educational policies

Essential Duties:

  1. Evaluate, train, and supervise instructors to effectively assess and teach ESL students.
  2. Assist with interviews and hiring of ESL instructors.
  3. Provide student support and services.  Conduct orientations, assess and place students in appropriate ESL levels, assist students with questions and refer them to appropriate programs and services.
  4. Develop, evaluate, and revise curriculum to be compliant with state regulations; make necessary changes to curriculum guide; evaluate and recommend ESL instructional materials and textbooks.
  5. Collect accurate data and create reports for assessment and grant purposes regarding the ESL program. 
  6. Communicate regularly with ESL instructors and support staff to keep them informed of any institutional and departmental changes.
  7. Collaborate with staff in designing and implementing recruitment and retention strategies for ESL students.
  8. Assist in designing and implementing new departmental procedures to ensure efficient, streamlined procedures to enhance divisional outcomes.
  9. Maintains required training, licensure and/or certifications
  10. Maintains confidentiality of privileged information and adheres to applicable privacy laws
  11. Demonstrates sensitivity, understanding and respect of diverse populations within the workplace.
  12. Maintains an understanding of the work of colleagues to effectively provide backup and/or support for co-workers during times when the division is short-staffed or experiencing an increased volume of work.
  13. Adheres to department guidelines for attendance and punctuality

  1. Perform other job-related duties as assigned which pertain to the job description.
  2. Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department.
