The Department of Social Work at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for spring 2025 to teach MSW 653: Advanced Social Work Practice in Schools II. The course is a 3-unit class, has one 3-hour class each week of the 15-week semester, and is taught in a 100% online format (however, applicants must perform the work required for this class in the state of California).

Course Description:

Addresses the specific knowledge and skills required for advanced social work practice in a school setting. Examines roles, responsibilities and the functions of a social worker in educational settings to promote well-being and system change. Emphasizes meeting the needs of diverse student populations and families from a macro-practice perspective. Course content is designed to meet and exceed the Pupil Personnel Services Credential Program Standards set forth by the State of California.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Master of Social Work degree
  • PPS credentials in School Social Work and Child Welfare and Attendance
  • Extensive experience (4 years or more) as a school social worker
  • Experience in supervising students in the school setting
  • Knowledge of related state regulations
  • Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working within the State of California is a condition of employment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • Experience with child welfare services
  • Experience in teaching university classes and with instructional technology.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and/or intercultural competence with diverse groups in relation to teaching.

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience

  • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,507 - $6,677 per full-time month
  • CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,507 - $6,677 per full-time month
