Minimum Qualifications 

  • An earned doctorate (e.g., PhD, DrPH, ScD, MD, etc.) in Public Health or a closely related field is required. ABD applicants will be accepted; Ph.D. must be completed before employment start date.
  • The candidate should have a demonstrated record of success in teaching and research commensurate with the qualifications for Assistant Professor at CSUSM.
  • Experience in teaching, research, or other creative activities, and the ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with colleagues on an ethnically and culturally diverse campus is required.
  • Candidate must have experience working with college-level students and practical experience in preparing manuscripts and grant proposals.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Demonstrated ability to teach and apply public health practice and research toward one of our offered concentrations in Health Promotion or Global Health.
  • The ability to collaborate with other faculty to develop, implement, and evaluate community-engaged research and service learning projects is highly preferable.
  • Preference is given to applicants with demonstrated multicultural intelligence and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, research, and/or service.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Key tasks may include (but are not limited to):

  • Serves as classroom faculty and teaches graduate core and concentration courses, including those with a focus in health promotion and/or global health.
  • Works with faculty and staff to assist in the development of overall plans and strategies for the public health department.
  • Serves as chair or member of theses or graduate capstone project committees.
  • Collaborates with faculty in academic advisement, mentoring, and counseling of students and in the coordination of practicum and integrative learning experiences.
  • Facilitates faculty and student exchanges in public health research including grant applications for external funding.
  • Participates in communications with community partners/collaborators, community leaders, and scholars.
  • Serves on program, school, college and/or university committees at CSUSM.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $6,667 - $7,084 per month

CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,405 - $11,994 per month
