Job Overview
Under general supervision of the Director, Office of Academic Advising, the Academic Advisor will perform professional student service work in assigned undergraduate programs and majors. This position will support student advising needs, campus processing protocols, policies, procedures, goals, and objectives of CSUSM’s centralized advising unit. The incumbent will independently assess individual student needs and advise students regarding general education, major and all university graduation requirements and review and maintain working knowledge of designated major assignments. The incumbent will serve in support of campus continuing and prospective degree-seeking students through orientation, evaluation, advising, and other program and student support services. Evaluate and update student records for designated majors to ensure accuracy. Provide guidance to students experiencing academic distress and provide appropriate support and/or referrals, particularly to those experiencing difficult life circumstances. Provides “high touch” student service in a heavy trafficked student service setting. The incumbent will provide academic and student developmental advising; assist in evaluation and processing inquiries for assigned majors and programs. Assist in evaluation of academic progress for continuing students; assist with the processing of graduation verification reviews; provide advisement and counseling to graduating students.

This is a full time, exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period.
This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 14 paid holidays are offered each year; 13 scheduled on specific days and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.

SSP II Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,610 - $4,800 per month
SSP II CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,610 - $6,556 per month
Senior Academic Advisor
SSP III Anticipated Hiring Salary: $5,025 per month
SSP III CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,025 - $7,159 per month
