- Ph.D. in the Biological Sciences or related discipline, and postdoctoral (or equivalent postgraduate) experience with training and research in the area of Aquatic Ecology.
- Demonstrated strong potential as an effective instructor of Biology courses either at the undergraduate level, or at the graduate level
- Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with colleagues and with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community with a substantial population of first-generation students
- Peer-reviewed publications in area of aquatic ecology.
- Compelling plan to develop and sustain an independent research program involving students that will lead to original, peer-reviewed publications
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to participate in instruction of required undergraduate courses for Biology majors, and to teach upper-division courses and graduate courses in candidate’s area of expertise
- Expertise in the areas of freshwater or marine ecology that can be applied to projects in the region
- Background and expertise that enhances and complements existing programmatic strengths
- Strong record of peer-reviewed, published research commensurate with years since receiving Ph.D., including publications from work initiated after receiving Ph.D.
- Experience, and evidence of effectiveness, as instructor of record at the college level
- Experience in active learning instructional practices
- Demonstrated intercultural competence with diverse groups in teaching, research, and/or service
The successful candidate will contribute to Biology course instruction at the lower-division, upper division, and graduate levels. They will also be given the opportunity to develop new undergraduate and graduate lecture and/or laboratory courses in their area of expertise. The successful candidate will develop an independently-funded research program involving CSUSM students, a responsibility that is facilitated by modest internal research funding and institutional support for grant writing. The successful candidate will also participate in activities serving the department, college, university, and community.
