The Athletics department at Cal State Fullerton strives to provide an intercollegiate athletics program that is an integral part of the total educational experience at Cal State Fullerton (CSUF), and fits within the overall mission of the University. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Facilities Operation Specialist (Athletics Administration Professional II). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Assistant Athletic Director of Broadcasting, Facility and Events, the Facilities Operation Specialist oversees athletic facilities and related programs, which includes overall responsibility and oversight for maintenance and repair, scheduling of facilities, and events. Analyzes and addresses problems using reasoning and interpretation of principles to develop and recommend alternatives and best courses of action. Investigates and analyzes problems. Duties assigned to this position include but are not limited to; oversee the hiring, training, and management of student event staff; solicitation and management of external event activities; venue preparation for intercollegiate and external activities; enforcement of university policies and procedures as necessary; schedule the use of the facilities; responsibility for planning and budget of equipment and operations; and maintain files, records, and prepare reports as required. Provides analysis and evaluation of athletics facilities and exercises discretion and judgment in making recommendations to senior Athletics management on staffing and use of university resources. Coordinate operations with Facilities planning and management, public safety, and their relevant staff/departments. Conducts weekly facility and event meetings. Uses independent discretion and judgment to determine scheduling needs for student workers; rental agreements and regular rental contracts with outside companies and personnel; invoicing and collecting funds for event rentals; and ensuring all safety protocols are met for internal and external events for specified facility areas. Provide leadership and guidance to student event staff workers who report to this position. Performs other duties assigned.

Essential Qualifications

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience. Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. Under general supervision, administers athletics policies, procedures, and programs. Work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgment and compliance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Decision-making takes into consideration National, NCAA, and Conference regulations and rules as well as university and athletics department policies, guidelines, and procedures. Evaluates and recommends procedure and process changes. Works independently on most day-to-day assignments with general supervision on new assignments or projects to ensure understanding and alignment with objectives. Handles multiple work priorities and is accountable for own work results.

Working knowledge and understanding of athletics department financial management, event coordination, and athletics regulations. Demonstrates competence in independently applying judgment to resolve complex problems and issues. Working knowledge and skill in applying and interpreting National, NCAA, and Conference rules and regulations as well as university policies, standards, and guidelines. Ability to make recommendations based on interpretations and principles of athletics professional practices. Strong analytical and organizational skills to organize, prioritize, and facilitate the successful completion of athletic events within time and budget constraints. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively produce clear and concise reports and communications. Ability to effectively provide lead work direction to others. Public and internal relations skills to effectively partner with a large and diverse group of internal and external stakeholders. Computer proficiency to appropriately use technology and relevant administrative tools.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.  

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I athletics sports environment and in the key areas of maintenance, upkeep, and ongoing operations of various facilities. Knowledge of University rules and regulations related to safety and working with the public.

License/Certifications

A valid California driver’s license.

This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR) is also available for viewing. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus. A paper copy of the AFSR is available upon request by contacting the Housing Office located at The Housing & Residential Engagement Main Office.
