About the Department/Position:
Under the general supervision of the Associate Director, Admissions and Recruitment, the Admissions and Recruitment Advisor position performs duties related to the recruitment and enrollment of K-16 students to CSUDH. Responsibilities include meeting prospective students and their families/support systems to provide information about enrollment and admission; these interactions will occur in individual and group settings. The incumbent will also assist the New Student Orientation (NSO) Specialist with First-year, Transfer and Parent program tasks and responsibilities. Will also assist with Campus Tours, Early Assessment Program, Recruitment and Yield.
This position will involve travel, evening and weekend hours.
Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides routine advice and counsel to prospective students and their families on general CSU and CSUDH specific admissions requirements, the financial aid process, and enrollment process.
- Advises students who are eligible for special programs and services such as EOP, AB540.
- Using well-structured formats, conducts CSUDH presentations, application workshops and attends college fairs.
- Assists the New Student Orientation Specialist with coordinating First-year, Transfer and Parent programs components.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field.
- Experience: Equivalent of one (1) year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry level. Equivalent amounts of graduate level job-related education may be substituted for the required experience.
- Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to rapidly acquire a working knowledge of the specific objectives of the campus Student Services program and its relationship to the total campus operation.
- Ability to reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations, present clear and concise information orally and in written reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations and other private and public agencies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Student assistant experience in Admissions, Recruitment or Outreach services.
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
- Knowledge of CSU admission and enrollment policies.
- Ability to effectively manage time, multi-task and manage multiple priorities and make deadlines.
- Ability to accurately assess a prospective students’ admission eligibility.
- Public speaking experience.
- Effective written communication.
- Experience counseling students and families.
