Position Summary
Under the guidance of the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Medicine, the Assistant Athletic Trainer plays a critical role in the health and performance of our student athletes. This position is responsible for the comprehensive delivery of athletic training services, including the prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation of sports-related injuries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assistant Athletic Trainer 1 will work directly with the Men’s Football program.
- Assistant Athletic Trainer 2 will work directly with the Women’s Lacrosse program.
- Develop and implement effective injury prevention and rehabilitation programs.
- Assess and manage athletic injuries with professionalism and care.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with coaching staff regarding injury status and treatment plans.
- Advise student-athletes on strategies to maintain peak physical condition.
- Perform ongoing evaluations to ensure optimal physical health and readiness.

Department Summary
The Department of Athletics, utilizing the services of over 150 employees, is responsible for the intercollegiate athletics program at San Diego State University. Currently, there are 18 sport programs, approximately 550 student-athletes, and 17 offices in the department. The offices include the following: The Aztec Club, Administration, Athletic Medicine, Business Office, Compliance, Corporate Sales, Development, Equipment, Event Management/Facilities and Operations, Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing, Media Relations, Strength and Conditioning, Student-Athlete Academic Support Services, Ticket Office, and Video.

Key Qualifications
- Current knowledge of medical supply vendors, quality, and costs.
- Must possess strong interpersonal and communications skills to develop effective working relationships with athletes and serve as a liaison among athletes, coaching staff, parents, physicians, and other health professionals.
- Experience with the following Equipment:
- Open and closed kinetic chain post-injury rehabilitation equipment
- Electrotherapeutic modalities
- Cervical traction and lumbar traction
- Various types of exercise equipment in the rehabilitation of athletic injuries, including;
- Biodex, SwimEx, and Alter-G.
- Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Medicat Electronic Health Record (EHR)
- Telephone, fax, copier
- Drive a state-owned passenger van.
- Software: Athletic training-related injury tracking programs or other electronic health record systems.
- Experience in Football or a team sport at collegiate, international, and/or professional team level as a certified Athletic Trainer for two to five include a graduate assistantship.
- Experience in Lacrosse or a team sport at collegiate, international, and/or professional team level as a certified Athletic Trainer for two to five include a graduate assistantship.
- Prior experience performing inventory, budget, and insurance duties in a sports medicine environment.

Compensation: Salary is based on your experience, education, and qualifications, within the department’s budget and equity guidelines.
- CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,213 - $8,130/month; hiring salary not expected to exceed $4,213/month.
