Under supervision ISA provide tutoring, grading or instruction to other CSU students for the majority of their work hours in a given appointment in a given academic department or equivalent administrative unit over the course of an academic term. Assignments are made by academic department or equivalent administrative unit by a specific supervisor at CSUSM. The work may be performed on-campus or, given the current situation, remotely from home.
The CSTEM Dean's Office accepts applications for our ISA positions throughout the Fall 2026 session as part of our ISA Pool. Applications are valid through the Fall 2026.
The duties of an ISA may include: • Meeting with instructor to discuss lab activities .
Meeting with instructor to discuss lab activities prior to the lab.
Assists students during class with lab activities.
Offers assistance to students with lab activities
ISA work part-time (typically up to 20 hours per week) during academic periods. Incumbents may have concurrent assignments in other Student Assistant classifications as long as 20 hours are not exceeded in total.
Incumbents must possess the following abilities:
Requires asmission or registration as a CSU student
Ability to learn and perform assigned work
Ability to work cooperatively with faculty, staff and other students
Ability to accept responsibility
Minimum qualifications:
Registration in CSUSM degree Program
Enrolled in Courses for Fall 2026 at CSUSM toward the completion of the degree
Able to make decisions about accomplishing work assignments
Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.
Anticipated Pay Rate
The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.

Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and/or intercultural competence with diverse groups in relation to teaching.
Application Timeline:
A review of applications will begin on June15, 2026; however, the position will remain open until filled. All positions are subject to enrollment/registration as a CSUSM student and funding.
