The SI Program is accepting applications for Unit 11 ISA positions for the Fall 2026.

Under supervision, Instructional Student Assistants in this classification perform teaching, grading or tutoring duties for the majority of work hours in a given appointment in a given academic department or equivalent administrative unit over the course of an academic term. Assignments are made by academic department or equivalent administrative unit by a specific supervisor at a CSU campus. The work may be performed on-campus or at an off-campus public agency or private non-profit organization under an agreement with a campus in the CSU system.

  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work
  • Ability to work cooperatively with faculty, staff and other students
  • Ability to accept responsibility

  • Admission or registration as a CSUSM student

Program Overview

Role Summary 
SI Leaders facilitate interactive study sessions that help students learn how to learn. This role offers opportunities to build communication skills, collaborate with faculty, and engage in professional development. 

Responsibilities 

  1. Attend all lectures for the assigned course 

  1. Plan and lead two weekly 75-minute study sessions 

  1. Collaborate with faculty and SI staff 

  1. Track attendance and student progress 

  1. Promote SI sessions and encourage participation 

  1. Attend required trainings and meetings 

Supported Courses 

  • Biology 177, 178 

  • Chemistry 160, 201, 202 

  • Economics 201, 202 

  • Psychology 360 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Enrolled in at least 1 unit at CSUSM 

  • Earned a B+ or higher in the target course 

  • Good academic standing 

  • Subject to Faculty approval  

  • Availability for training (week of August 24, tentative) 

Compensation & Hours 

  • Starting pay: $17.86/hour 

  • 8–10 hours per week 

  • CSUSM student employees are allowed to work a maximum of 20 hours per week between all campus jobs.

  • Required training on August 25th, August 26th, and August 27th
