JOB SUMMARY

Generates project budget estimates, updates estimates during the design phases, negotiates all changes to the work during the construction/installation phase, and compiles post-mortem cost summaries of the project. This work is performed with very limited oversight from project controls / estimating leadership and is considered a subject matter expert within the estimating organization.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops estimates, negotiates, and settles costs for all changes to the work (including specialty ride & show scopes) throughout the project.
  • Generates comprehensive initial project budget estimates for new developments including design and construction of all project elements as well as other owner / developer costs (Staff, FF&E, Taxes, etc.).
  • Works with project management and engineering to provide expertise during the buyout process including but not limited to the development of RFP’s, scoping of bids, negotiation of final cost for all project scopes.
  • Produces overall project cost summaries and presentations. As well as present them to all levels of company leadership.
  • Works with project team to identify and report project cost trends and risks. Leads the management of project risk quantification and reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Creates “value engineering” components with the project team to mitigate cost overruns. Researches and presents alternate materials or methodology for VE consideration. 
  • Manages outside cost consultants contracted to assist with both overall project estimates as well as change estimates & negotiation.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Proven prior project controls leadership, supervisory experience preferred.
  • Solid working knowledge of theme parks, show/ride product lines and design and construction.
  • 8+ years of estimating take-off software (On-Screen, BidScreenXL, etc.) experience required.
  • Possess strong understanding of design and construction progress measurement.
  • Working knowledge of architectural/engineering and show and ride design and production.
  • Must be a well-organized self-starter with strong communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Solid understanding of practical project controls applications and earned value measurement.
  • Ability to coordinate staff, consultants, and suppliers including setting goals, prioritization of tasks, coordinating work, and managing time.
  • Strong meeting leadership, facilitation, and alignment skills.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, technical writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to successfully influence and lead a team.
  • Ability to appropriately delegate and coach/mentor talent.
  • Ability to successfully negotiate cost changes with vendors and contractors.
  • Basic conflict resolution skills.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or quantity surveying required. Advanced degrees preferred.

EXPERIENCE

9+ years’ on-site construction and estimating experience on themed entertainment projects, knowledge of show and ride estimating and facility impacts required. 8+ years theme park estimating experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
