JOB SUMMARY:
Fabricate, repair and finish costumes and accessories and other aesthetic elements of Universal Parks and Resorts. Responsibilities include costume construction, patterning and pattern alterations, machine and hand sewing, mold making, working with silicone, fiberglass repair, foam carving, casting, wig care, pigmentation and painting including color matching, scenic applications, faux finishes, automotive spray, and airbrushing techniques.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Fabricate, troubleshoot, and repair flexible and non-flexible coverings (including costume fabrics, fleece, foam, wigs, fur, and feathers). This includes planning/preparing for work, cleaning, painting, repairing costumes and other figure coverings, cleaning of work area, and documenting work. Painting processes to include properly assessing, mixing, and applying airbrush and/or faux paint techniques, automotive paint applications, as well as wet/dry brush and sponge painting. Painting techniques to include brushing, rolling, blending, spraying, and faux finishing techniques of show sets.
- Repair and Fabricate show set and ride vehicle soft goods (backdrops, curtains, scrims, padding, covers).
- Maintain, fabricate, and install/embed fasteners and attachments for costumes and figure coverings. This can include buckles, straps, zippers, snaps, stand-offs, tabs, and various inserts.
- Properly document and update projects and processes through SOP’s, Project Planning Sheets, DTI’s, Material Requests Forms and other documentation standards as required. Properly track and record required information through Maximo.
- Repair and Fabricate show props and figure skins to include planning/preparing for work, cleaning, molding, casting, fiberglass repairs, construction, finishing/painting, cleaning of work area, and documenting work.
- Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- High school degree or GED is required;
- Associate’s degree is preferred - Visual Arts, Scenery Production, Technical Theater, Costuming or equivalent;
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred - Visual Arts, Scenery Production, Technical Theater, Costuming or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
- 3+ years costume fabrication and maintenance with the finishing aspect of costumes/animated figures/characters is required
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
A valid Florida State driver’s license is required to operate company vehicles.
