Why your role matters:
As Project Officer (CoastSnap), you will support the Australian Coastline Imaging Network (AusCIN), part of the Coastal Research Infrastructure (CoastRI) cross-NCRIS facility at UNSW’s Water Research Laboratory.
Focusing on the CoastSnap citizen science program, you will help expand coastal monitoring across Australia by coordinating new monitoring stations, engaging communities and building strong stakeholder partnerships. Working closely with the AusCIN team, you will contribute to a national program that connects communities with coastal research and environmental monitoring.
Key responsibilities:
- Coordinate the planning, establishment and rollout of CoastSnap monitoring stations across Australia.
- Build and maintain relationships with councils, government agencies, researchers, schools and community organisations.
- Plan and deliver community engagement activities, including workshops, presentations, educational resources and events.
- Manage project communications, stakeholder enquiries, social media and digital engagement to encourage community participation.
- Coordinate procurement, distribution and maintenance of CoastSnap stations, signage and associated materials.
- Support project reporting, documentation, stakeholder grant initiatives and national and international collaborations.
- Monitor project progress, maintain accurate records and provide field support, including site visits and installations.
Who you are:
You are an organised, proactive and collaborative professional with a passion for coastal environments, citizen science and community engagement. You enjoy building relationships, communicating effectively and managing diverse activities to deliver meaningful outcomes.
You will bring:
- A degree in environmental science, coastal engineering, geography, marine science, communications or a related discipline, or equivalent education, training and experience.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities and work independently.
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience working across government, research and community organisations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience developing reports, presentations and engagement materials.
- Demonstrated experience delivering community engagement, outreach or educational activities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital communication tools, and the ability to work collaboratively and take initiative.
- Willingness to undertake fieldwork and travel independently across Australia for several days at a time.
- An unrestricted Australian Driver Licence, or the ability to obtain one.
Experience in project logistics, procurement, social media management or scientific communications would be highly regarded, as would an established network relevant to CoastSnap.
