About the role

The Supervising Psychologist will contribute to the supervision and provision of high-quality services that promote Forensic Psychology training for intern psychologists at the UNSW Forensic Psychology Clinic (UFPC).

The UFPC is a busy clinical and training environment supporting a small Master of Psychology (Forensic) cohort. Student supervision is shared across the clinic team, alongside the delivery of psychological assessment and intervention services to a varied forensic client caseload.

This role is suited to a senior psychologist who brings strong forensic clinical expertise, enjoys working collaboratively and is interested in supporting the development of emerging psychologists. Previous formal supervision experience is not essential, provided you have the clinical experience and capability to support students in a training environment.

The role is expected to commence in January 2027, allowing you to contribute to student onboarding and preparation for the year ahead.

The position is worked across three days per week, excluding Mondays. Wednesday is a preferred working day due to its importance for student and clinic activities. The remaining two days are flexible by agreement. The team generally works two days onsite at the Surry Hills clinic and one day remotely.

The Supervising Psychologist reports to the Clinic Director and has no direct reports.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide individual and group supervision of Master of Psychology (Forensic) program students while they are at the UFPC
  • Direct and manage students’ learning within the clinical setting, while evaluating their development of clinical skills and core competencies, including working from a FIT structure (Feedback Informed Treatment)
  • Directly observe and guide students’ interactions with clients and client related activities
  • Support students’ training and provide them with learning opportunities, while also being responsible for maintaining a client caseload, which involves providing individual and group therapy and assessment services to forensic clients from a variety of referral sources
  • Participate in and conduct educational activities (such as workshops) within the Master’s program
  • Participate in the Master program’s development and evaluation
  • Provide support to the Clinic Director and facilitate the functioning of the clinic
  • Ensure that high levels of ethical and professional standards are adhered to within the UFPC
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., CSNSW, Legal Aid, WDO, etc) to work collaboratively within and across multidisciplinary teams
  • Support external placement coordination and management of students into external placement sites when applicable

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Master’s or PhD in Psychology, registered with AHPRA as an endorsed Forensic Psychologist
  • Psychology Board approved supervisor with demonstrated experience of clinical experience post qualification
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Strong skills with risk assessment and clinical intervention with variety of forensic clients
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
