The Organisation
The Centre for Molecular Oncology is a new research centre established within the School of Biomedical Sciences at UNSW which is dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of cancer. The Centre applies basic, translational and clinical approaches to understanding cancer biology through patient-centred discovery programs and uses this information to improve patient outcomes through clinical trials.
Details of the role
A Research Officer plays a key role in supporting clinical research projects as part of a multidisciplinary team of researchers within the Centre for Molecular Oncology.
The Research Officer will provide technical and research support to senior research staff, contributing to the achievement of key objectives related to the Omico Molecular Oncology Board (MOB) within various research projects, including the national Cancer Screening Program (CaSP). The role will require the contribution and application of knowledge in the field of molecular oncology.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative clinical research that has a direct impact on advancing molecular oncology programs. Working within a collaborative research environment, you will coordinate and support a range of research activities, manage research data and databases, contribute to study processes and protocols, and help ensure the timely dissemination of research findings. You will work closely with researchers, stakeholders, collaborators, and research support staff while applying your expertise in clinical research coordination, data management, and problem-solving. The role offers the chance to make a meaningful contribution to nationally significant research programs while developing and applying specialist knowledge in molecular oncology.
The role reports to the Senior Program Manager – MOB, supporting the Centre for Molecular Oncology, and has no direct reports.
Some key skills required:
- A university degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, biomedical science or related life sciences discipline, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training or experience.
- Demonstrated experience in the implementation, coordination and management of clinical research projects.
- Knowledge of research protocols, experimental design and planning as involved in developing research projects and reporting against milestones.
- Experience working with a range of computer systems and applications, including participant databases.
- Manage the technical aspects of databases, including coordinating and executing data cleaning, data management processes and ensuring research integrity in research databases.
- Perform complex data queries and reporting duties as required by the research programs.
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal communication skills to initiate and maintain effective stakeholder relationships whilst exercising discretion and confidentiality.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
