About the Role
The Project Manager is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of capital works projects across construction, infrastructure and interior fit-outs, with particular expertise in refurbishment and building services.
Operating in a lead and strategic capacity within Estate Management, the role ensures projects are delivered in line with approved scope, budget and timelines, while supporting UNSW and Estate Management’s strategic objectives. Key responsibilities include project reporting, financial management, appointing and managing consultants and contractors, and engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
The role reports to the Portfolio Delivery Manager and has no direct reports.
Responsibilities
- Develop clear project briefs aligned with UNSW strategy and stakeholder requirements.
- Manage the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and planning through tendering, construction, defects and completion.
- Oversee project budgets, contracts, consultants and contractors to ensure delivery within agreed scope, time, cost and quality requirements.
- Lead stakeholder consultation, secure buy-in and provide accurate project and financial reporting to senior management.
- Identify and manage project risks, monitor delivery performance and drive continuous improvement through post-project reviews and lessons learned.
- Ensure compliance with UNSW policies, statutory and legislative obligations, WHS requirements, Australian Standards, Building Codes and organisational values.
About You
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering, Construction, Project Management or a related discipline, or equivalent experience in complex operational environments.
- Advanced experience managing multiple building services, infrastructure and upgrade projects within strict time and budget constraints.
- Strong contract management and administration expertise, including variations, time claims, contractor performance and project risk.
- Proven financial management capability across project planning, budget allocation and forecasting, ideally within large institutional environments.
- Excellent organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work autonomously, manage priorities and maintain project timelines.
- Strong leadership, consultation, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, with a commitment to UNSW values, policies and health and safety responsibilities.
