Position Summary
The Senior Project Officer plays a key role within the School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine & Health, providing high-level project management and operational support for research projects within the Cardiometabolic Health and Exercise Medicine Group. Reporting to the Chief Investigator, the role supports the delivery of the RESTORE Trial, part of the internationally funded Wellcome Leap VISIBLE Programme – a global initiative investing more than US$55 million to advance women's cardiovascular health. The RESTORE Trial aims to develop the first female-specific treatment approach for coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD), an under-recognised form of heart disease that disproportionately affects women and currently has no targeted treatment.
Working across multidisciplinary teams and multiple research sites, the Senior Project Officer coordinates all aspects of clinical trial delivery, including project planning, ethics and governance submissions, study documentation, contracts, Trial Master Files, participant recruitment, data collection, stakeholder engagement, and reporting to funders and governance committees. The role ensures research is delivered in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), regulatory requirements, and University policies, contributing to high-quality research that aims to improve outcomes for women living with invisible heart disease. The role has no direct reports.
Some Key Skills Required:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in health sciences, exercise physiology, clinical research or a related discipline, with subsequent relevant experience, or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
- Demonstrated success working effectively and collaboratively on initiatives with a range of people at different levels within an organisation.
- Experience working with a range of computer systems and applications, including REDCap and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
- Proven project coordination experience across the project life cycle, including developing study protocols and completing ethics and regulatory applications, modifications and reporting (e.g. via UNSW iRECS and HRECs).
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
- Experience with research project coordination including management of clinical data collection under Good Clinical Practice (GCP), database development and maintenance, and data cleaning in a clinical trial context.
- Experience preparing and maintaining trial documentation (e.g. TMF, ISFs, CRFs, PICFs, trackers) and coordinating site and vendor set-up and contracts.
