The Opportunity:
The Senior DevOps and Infrastructure Specialist in the School of Computer Science and Engineering at UNSW will play a critical role in designing, deploying, and maintaining the digital infrastructure that supports teaching, learning, and assessment. This includes automating system provisioning, managing scalable and secure environments for exams and coursework, and ensuring high availability of educational platforms. The work will directly enhance the digital experience for students and staff, supporting innovation in computer science education. The role of Senior DevOps and Infrastructure Specialist reports to the Deputy Head of School (Education) and has no direct reports.

  • Salary, Level 8: $127,351 - $143,489 per annum + 17% superannuation
  • Full Time (35 hours)
  • Continuing position
  • Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia

Skills & Experience:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with DevOps practices including automation, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
  • Proficiency in managing Linux-based systems and virtualisation technologies (e.g., VMware, VirtualBox, KVM).
  • Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience supporting learning management systems (e.g., Moodle) and digital assessment platforms.
  • Strong scripting skills (e.g., Bash, Python) for automation and system management.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience in a higher education or research environment.
  • Familiarity with secure exam environments and accessibility considerations.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid infrastructure models.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity best practices in educational settings.
